Wineport Lodge Wedding - Joan & Wolf

When Joan contacted me first, we didn't know each other at all, but it turned out we grew up a few miles from each other in Longford and over the course of a long phone call it became apparent that we knew a lot of the same people. It was like catching up with an old friend. So when I arrived at her family home in the morning it was to a really warm welcome. As an added bonus, her Dad Mike knew pretty much everyone on my Dad's side of the family. As a documentary wedding photographer you need to be able to blend in so well that people almost forget you're there and I felt so included that this side of the job took care of itself.

Wolf comes from Alaska and his family and friends had made the trek all the way from Anchorage to Wineport Lodge, bang smack in the middle of Ireland. He met Joan in Brussels, where they both work, and their Belgian circle had made the journey too.

So this was a unique Longford/Alaska/Belgium mash-up and I felt on the day that it was vital to capture the faces, the interactions, the emotions of the people who had come all that way to see Joan and Wolf get married. It's what documentary wedding photography really boils down to - the people. Some of them might not see each other again for a long time so hopefully these shots have captured something of what they felt.
